Angliss Hospital Ferntree Gully Auxiliary

The Angliss Hospital Ferntree Gully Auxiliary started more than 70 years ago when the Angliss Hospital was just a small bush hospital, situated at the Chandler House site in Albert Street, Ferntree Gully. Since then, the Angliss has grown to the busy …. Bed hospital it is today. Angliss Auxiliary began by providing such things as pillows, crockery and sheeting to Matron, who seemed to be in charge of all things! Now, the Auxiliary raise funds for much needed additional medical equipment. Their main source of income is from their opportunity shop, situated in the Ferntree Gully Village, which opened in 1961 and continues to run successfully through the efforts of Auxiliary volunteers. The ladies of the Auxiliary hold an annual fashion parade of pre-loved goods which have been donated to the shop. The event has become so popular, they are constantly being asked to put on these parades for other fundraising groups, which help everyone. The Auxiliary also raises funds through sausage sizzles, raffles and stalls at the Angliss.

In 2013, the Auxiliary handed over $75,712.50 to the Angliss Hospital. Impressively, a running total of funds raised since donations began in 1961, has so far seen a total of $1,247,614.73 handed over to the Angliss.

As well as raising funds for much needed, state of the art medical equipment, the Auxiliary also make and donate goods to the wards including; bags filled with goodies for children undergoing Day Procedures, which include Trauma Teddies, books, pencils, games; and supply of funds for ‘Jaffa Certificates’, knee rugs for patients in the rehabilitation ward, Teddy bears for use as Share Bears for cancer patients, baby bonnets and other clothing for new born babies and for parenting loss, Cards and gifts for babies and parents of babies who spend special days (eg; Mother’s Day) in hospital, Toiletry packs for emergency patients who are admitted to wards; and Trauma Teddies and other soft toys, books and pencils for children in the emergency and paediatric wards.
